What We learned
Of course, this experience was very educational for everyone. For example, the website and video teams learned things on informatic. For the robot team, the project allowed them to put into practice their knowledge in science. Furthermore, we all learned more about team work and how to organise our schedule.
WHat we enjoyed
We liked working on a project that will make us proud after. The pairing between the students of secondary 4 and 5 helped us meet new people and create an original project because of the different ideas of all the people. The students of secondary 5 were more experimented so the younger ones could learn from them too.
The struggles
We all had to deal with struggles because we are a lot to participate in the project so it was hard to reunite everybody at the meetings. The most common struggle is to find the time to work on the project because a lot of people are already part of other committies.
The sacrifices made for the team
The biggest sacrifice was to use our free time to work on the project, especially the robot team. Indeed, the members of that eam were meeting four days per day at lunch time and three days per day, they were staying after school too work together. Therefore, nobody regrets it because we are all proud of our work.
Students' opinions
Ferly Jimena Galvez-Castillo (robot team): "I really liked the expericence of the robotic competition because it allowed me to develop my leadership. I also had the opportunity to put into practice my knowledge and to participate in a project that I like. We stayed after school very often, but we are very proud of the results. It is the first year that our school participate in the competition and I hope that it will become a tradition."
Anne Simone Melad (robot team): " It was a really good experience, because not a lot of people have the chance to build a robot in their life. It was a big struggle to finish to build it in time, but we finally did it. My biggest sacrifice was all the time that I gave to my team to work on the project because I had a lot of homework and other projects too. I learned a lot from this experience, mostly that we can't give up when we are desperate. I like working with the others and we developped our team work.
Jennifer Nguyen (robot team): "It was a project that needed a lot of work and time, but the results are very satisfying. I learned more bout team work and tenacity, even though I was desperate sometimes."
Cathrine Mekhil Polis (robot team) : " While we were working on the project, I learned a lot of things, as much theoretical as practical. This experience mostly help me learn that there is always a thousand ways to do anything because of all the times we tried to build something and it didn't work. I like the fact that there were many struggles because I like challenges. Therefore, we had to do a lot of sacrifices for a project as hard as this. I personally spent around two hours per week after school and four hours per week at lunch time to help my team. But, seeing the result, after all it was worth it! "
